the approach:

I work with organisations to understand the priorities and needs for the immediate and longer term future for their strategy development.

It is important that all key stakeholders are consulted with to gather valuable insights and perspectives, as well as considering the needs and preferences of the end user - whether these are current participants or future audiences.

I analyse current circumstances, set priorities, and determine the most effective approach while taking into account available resources, risks, and opportunities.

We'll work together to provide a roadmap for decision-making and implementation plans to bring the strategy to life, ensuring that the delivery team are aligned and a part of the strategic intent.

why work in this way?

Evidence suggests that data-driven decision-making enhances accuracy, efficiency, and risk management, leading to better business outcomes. This is particularly important when building a strategic plan for an organisation to ensure it is robust, relevant and appropriately resourced.

Below are some examples of the work I have undertaken in recent years.

Welsh Judo Association

Welsh Judo Association

2024-25

The team required a fresh approach to their current strategy for the 2023-2026 cycle. With new workforce and Board leadership in place, it was a good opportunity to refine the goals, align accountability and refresh the direction of travel, in line with the current needs.

I held 1-1s, full staff and board workshops and devised the new strategic plan based on the insight captured from the team to establish their strategy, operational plan and accountability for the remainder of the cycle.

Wales Rugby League

Wales Rugby League

2024-25

Wales Rugby League are led by a team of dedicated volunteer board directors, all bringing areas of expertise to the organisation.

The team required strategic leadership in translating their vision for rugby league in Wales;. I captured the core essence of the team's goals and developed it into a tangible strategic plan 'transforming lives through rugby league'.

Welsh Athletics

2024

Welsh Athletics launched their 'vision for athletics in Wales' in 2020, just prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Senior leadership team were keen to review the priorities and ensure they align with the ever-evolving landscape in a post pandemic world.

I facilitated sessions with each department, capturing the priority areas and subsequently refreshed the strategic plan for 2024 onwards.

This led to future project management work with the participation and development and team.

Welsh Boxing

Welsh Boxing

2022-26

Welsh Boxing consistently performed well on the elite stage, but wanted a strategy to improve their community offering across the country.

I developed 'Beyond 2023', their strategy aimed at helping the Governing Body and their clubs develop their offer and position boxing as part of the solution to societal issues.

Following this piece of work, I was commissioned to devise their communications strategy to help align the community with the NGB. Welsh Boxing subsequently recruited a content and communications officer to implement the strategic goals.

I was subsequently appointed to the Board to support with the 2026 strategy development.
